Flexi-Circuit Connectors

General Description

The Albacom series of three, four and five-row flex-circuit connectors are specifically designed to meet the packaging needs of high density Military/Avionics applications. A wide variety of board/heat exchanger designs can beaccommodated due to the dimensional adaptability of the flexible circuitry.

Representing the male half of the high reliability tuning fork and blade interconnection system, the connectors incorporate blade contacts arranged on 2.54mm centres, while the flexible circuit traces linking the daughter board to the connector are arranged on 1.27mm, 1.016mm and 0.847mm centres for the four-row, five-row and three-row versions respectively.

Albacom flex-circuit connectors combine maximum interconnection density and low insertion force performance within a lightweight space-saving design. The lightweight extruded aluminium which helps shield the active circuitry from electro-magnetic interference (EMI) also provides the rigidity necessary to support even the largest daughter boards. A number of extrusion shapes are available for compatibility with virtually all ceramic or epoxy glass boards and may be manufactured to any length for complete design flexibility.

The flexible circuitry, which can be isolated from the connector body by G-10 dielectric, is protected by thin layers of Polyamide insulation used selectively to protect the solder joints at the board connector interface. Strain relief features are designed into the pads and fingers on the flex circuitry to ensure that the circuitry flexes only where desired. The flexible circuitry also compensates for initial tolerance build up and dimensional changes due to thermal expansion and contraction of the board-heat exchanger package.

Albacom high density flex-circuit connectors may be specified with staggered-length blade contact arrangements to meet low insertion force requirements. Albacom flex-circuit connectors wiII mate with most well-designed fork backplane systems.

This range of high density flexible circuit connectors is ideally suited for all military and aerospace fork and blade applications and is designed to meet the requirements of MIL-C-28754 and MIL-P-50884-B
