Albacom Ltd. can trace its technological roots back to 1953 when Ferranti set up a facility in Dundee to specialise in the development and manufacture of a wide range of high vacuum devices. Albacom became an independent company in 1990 and today is a supplier of high power TWT (Travelling Wave Tubes), TWTA (Travelling Wave Tube Amplifiers) and high Voltage Power Supplies. The company has contributed to every major U.K. weapons platform in the last 30 years. Our sophisticated information systems allow us to access design and manufacturing data bases so that most commonly requested information can be provided within the same working day. Our unique design techniques and our close relationship with our partners allow us to supply many of our products with typically delivery times of two weeks or, in many cases, from stock. For our complex sub-systems engineering support is available at all stages of the project. For our Combining and Redundancy Switching Networks deployed in Satellite Earth Stations such support includes the assessment and measuring of sites followed up with site preparation, installation and final commissioning of the Networks. There is a comprehensive range of data sheets and outline drawings for all of our standard products which are in pdf format for convenient downloading and use. In addition, there is information relating to the design features of most of our products and of all the options which are available. Our design teams have considerable experience of the highly sophisticated and demanding Microwave marketplace, this practical experience being backed up with an impressive library of both proprietary and bespoke design software. Our software is so advanced that most of our prototypes are ‘virtual’ and so allows us to accurately predict product performance without having to manufacture prototype hardware. This facilitates short and very cost effective design proving phases. We are particularly skilled in the design of high power sub-systems and in our Albacom facility in Dundee we have access to a wide range of High Power Sources which are used to verify the power handling capability of our products. We have a depth of experience in the design and manufacture of complex sub-systems. These sub-systems range from the output protection circuits for high power Microwave Amplifiers to Combining and Redundancy Switching Networks deployed in Satellite Earth Stations. These products are mainly waveguide and incorporate electronic switching, control and alarm facilities. Our Redundancy Switching Networks also provide Amplifier control and Front panel interfaces. These sub-systems combine several microwave functions (coupling, isolating, combining, etc.) and provide the most cost effective and technically sound solutions to demanding challenges. Our coaxial products are also complex with integral LNA, Control and Alarm circuits. We also can supply the widest range of Microwave components which we use in our sub-systems. Within our test department there is a comprehensive range of microwave test equipment and we have access to environmental test facilities at Albacom, Dundee so that, where necessary, our products can be tested under severe operating conditions. Our other functions are largely provided by partners who bring a wide range of specialist skills to the enterprise. Our customer support and design teams are co-located with Electroforms, our manufacturing partner who has a high capacity, state of the art machining and fabrication facility which is one of the largest and most advanced in our industry. Our partner’s highly efficient operation allows us to provide products which are exceptionally cost competitive. We are a company dedicated to high quality in all that we do and we, as well as our manufacturing partners, are qualified to ISO 9001:2000. On site are most of the fabrication, material finishing, painting and mechanical test facilities with specialised welding and brazing available in nearby partners’premises. Electroforms has been in the microwave component business for over 30 years and the management and staff understand the unique requirements of this demanding industry.
